The First Glenfield Scarecrow competition was held in the village on the last weekend in September and, despite the poor weather conditions, the magnificent sum of over £1300 was either raised or pledged. We had two categories, one for individuals and one for groups.
In 1st place was Gone Fishing and in groups 1st place went to The Juggler,
In 2nd place was The Highway Rat and in groups 2nd place went to The Scout Camp Fire
In 3rd place was The Scarecrow's Wedding and in groups it was Vera Lynn
The organiser, Carol Knill, presented certificates to the winners and thanked everyone for a really tremendous effort in raising funds for the Air Ambulance Service, a charity that helps to save lives in the surrounding five counties in the event of serious accidents. With the average call out costing £1700 it was felt that this was a just and worthy cause to support and the people of Glenfield responded beyond our expectations. We have been asked to hold the event again next year so if you would like to be involved please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
We would like to thank the Parish Council for their initial support, all those who took part, those who contributed to the charity, the Methodist Church, the Scouts and other groups for their donations, the Memorial Hall for shelter on Sunday and especially Becky for her enthusiasm and help with modern technology.
